Black History is World History : 1619

February 5, 2021

Celebrate this Black History by challenging your knowledge.

This 2021 marks  the 95th or the 51st Black History month in America, depending on how far back you want to go. We at Culture x Co. have decided to go all the way back to the beginning in America. To do that, this month we will highlight a few notable  dates that are important to Black history and because we are based in America, most of these dates will be meaningful in American history as a whole. Still, we reserve the right to also include dates that are important to world history as a whole, too. Join us on this journey of learning !

1619

The first twenty slaves stolen from the kingdom of Ndongo in Angola by Portuguese kidnappers are forced aboard ships headed for Spain. Approximately 150 of the 350 slaves aboard these ships died along the way and when the ship was attacked , the crew sold these 20 slaves to other people in Jamestown, VA. This begins the era of African slavery in America for the next 200+ years.
